Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - A crucial four-game series for the JetHawks began Monday, with Lancaster losing, 7-3, to Inland Empire on Memorial Day. The JetHawks are now two games back in the standings, and they've won just three of 11 games against the 66ers.
Things started well for Lancaster (24-27), as Manny Melendez hit a leadoff home. But Inland Empire (26-25) answered in the second to tie the game.
The 66ers went in front on back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning. Jack Kruger led off the inning with a conventional home run, and Roberto Baldoquin followed with an inside-the-park home run.
Ty Culbreth (1-2) allowed three runs over six innings in a losing effort. Inland Empire pulled away against the bullpen, scoring four unearned runs in the top of the eighth inning. With two outs and nobody on base, the 66ers loaded the bases on an error and two walks. Alberto Triunfel cleared the bases with a double, and Jahmai Jones followed with a triple.
Matt Ball pitched four innings, so Inland Empire's Jeremy Beasley (1-0) earned the victory in relief. The right-hander went the final five innings for the 66ers.
The JetHawks are now 3-8 against Inland Empire this season. Lancaster is two games back of the 66ers in the standings with 19 games to play in the First Half.
Game two of the series is Tuesday night at The Hangar. Righty Matt Dennis (3-6) is set to start against lefty Nate Bertness (1-4). First pitch is set for 6:35 pm.
