Evansville BlueCats News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN: The Evansville BlueCats are pleased to announce that defensive back Hunter Pingston has been named UIF Defensive Player of the Week for performance in Week 14 against the Sioux City Bandits. Last week Pingston recorded 3 solo tackles, and came up with 3 huge turnovers in the 4th quarter to help drive the Evansville BlueCats 40-30 come-from-behind victory over the Bandits. Pingston grabbed two interceptions and recovered a fumble which he returned 48 yards for a touchdown. The 48-yard fumble return is the longest in league history.

Evansville BlueCats Head Coach John Hart said, "Hunter has been playing great football for us. He plays smart and always seems to be around the ball. We expect him to be a big part of our defense over the next several weeks."

Hunter signed with the BlueCats four weeks ago after finishing his college education at Bethel College in McKenzie, Tennessee. In only four games so far with the BlueCats, Hunter has racked up 12 total tackles, 4 interceptions, and one record breaking fumble recovery.

During his football career at Bethel College, Hunter received numerous awards and accolades, including being named a two time NAIA First Team All-American and was also selected Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Year two years in a row. He also played in the NAIA Senior All-Star Game in Kansas City, Missouri, where he was selected Defensive Player of the Game.

As a senior last fall, Pingston was a leader for the Bethel College defense. He led the team with 76 tackles, including 3 tackles for loss, 4 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, and 8 pass break ups. His impressive senior season capped off a college career where he accumulated more than 200 career tackles and 14 interceptions.

Other players receiving league awards for Week 14 were Billings quarterback Chris Dixon (Offensive Player of the Week), Rock River running back Randy Bell (Offensive "Honorable Mention), Rock River kicker Doug Daniel (Special Teams Player of the Week), River City kicker Derek Kutz (Special Teams "Honorable Mention"), and Sioux Falls defensive back Justin Landis (Defensive "Honorable Mention").

Since the UIF was formed in 2005, no other team in the UIF has had more players earn more Player of the Week awards than the Evansville BlueCats.
