DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.-- The Daytona Beach Hawgs suffered their first home loss of the season Saturday night as the Everett Hawks posted a 58-34 National Indoor Football Leagueat TUI Business Machiness Field at the Ocean Center.
Albert Higgs threw seven touchdowns passes as the Hawks remained unbeaten at 8-0 and the Hawgs, who gave up six turnovers, slipped to 6-3.
The Hawgs took a 7-0 lead on Oscar Davenport's six-yard touchdown pass to Robert Bailey two minutes into the game, but Everett scored the next 27 points on four Higgs touchdowns passes. Daytona Beach missed a field goal and turned the ball over twice.
Daytona Beach closed to 27-14 on Erie Williams' 14-yarder from Davenport with 1:37 left in the half, but the Hawks scored twice to increase their lead to 41-14 at halftime.
Higgs, who leads the league in pass yardage with a 222 yard average, completed 11 of his first 12 passes en route to a 191-yard night. Cory Grow and A.J. Street each caught three touchdown passes.
The Hawgs scored 20 fourth-quarter points on a 50-yard Bailey missed field goal, Joe Giddens' 13-yard interception return and 12-yard keeper by backup quarterback Isaac Hall, who also added a pair of two-point conversions.
Daytona Beach returns to action on Monday, May 23 against the Kissimmee Kreatures. The regular season home finalewill include a free funeral giveaway.
