Rapid City Flying Aces News Release
Rapid City, SD - The Flying Aces announced Wednesday that two players have committed to the Aces for the 2006 season. Marcus Jones and Tyrone Saterfield, both former Louisville Cardinals, have flown onto the scene to play for the Flying Aces for their 2006 campaign.
Jones, ranked second in sacks in Conference USA during the 2004 season with 8.5, helping him earn First-Team All-Conference honors as a senior with the Louisville Cardinals. Jones also finished the year sixth on the team in tackles with 45 over 12 games. He tallied a team-best 14 tackles for loss and was second in sacks (nine) and earned second team All-Conference recognition as a junior when he led the unit in sacks with 10, the third highest total in C-USA. Jones finished his career with 133 tackles overall and 23 sacks for the Cardinals.
The 6-foot, 237-pound Defensive End got a lot of attention from NFL scouts during his senior year. His production and overall play continued to improve as a senior in 2004, which is why his draft value continued to rise in the eyes of NFL scouts. Jones had been projected as high as a sixth-round draft pick in the NFL Draft, but went undrafted and signed a contract to play in the CFL for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers following the NFL draft.
"We're happy and fortunate to land him, but we're going to try to get him moved back up to the NFL, where he belongs," said Head Coach Dan Maciejczak. "Marcus is one of those guys who fell through the cracks but has the ability to play in the NFL. He's pretty special."
Saterfield, the 6-2, 320-pound mammoth, also has all the makings of a star. Saterfield was a two-year letter winner for the Cardinals, starting 11 games in 2003. His ability to make the opposing teams running backs pay with physicality and pain earned him a contract with the Cincinnati Bengals following the 2005 NFL Draft.
The native of Milton, Fla., recorded 31 tackles and four tackles for loss in guiding the Cardinals to a 9-4 mark, and an appearance in the GMAC Bowl. He started seven games for the Cardinals in 2002, recording 19 tackles.
"Tyrone's big, quick, and experienced. He's an active big body who is a dominating run stuffer," said Maciejczak. "With Tyrone and Tomasi up front our run defense is going to be a force to reckon with," said Maciejczak.
Season tickets and single game tickets are currently on sale and are available by calling the Flying Aces at (605) 716-ACES or visiting the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Box Office.
