Bridgeport, Conn- Bridgeport Bluefish team officials have announced that outfielder Daniel Fields and pitcher Rainy Lara will join the 'Fish in 2017. Outfielder Jonathan Galvez, a 2016 Atlantic League All-Star, along with catcher Jose Gil and lefty pitcher Brian Moran will also return to the Park City.
"These five players all have great experience and have proven to be successful in their careers," says Bluefish General Manager Paul Herrmann. "Jonathan, Jose and Brian are all familiar with our ballclub and the Atlantic League which is great in terms of team chemistry. Daniel and Rainy will also be solid additions to the team."
Daniel Fields joins the Bluefish for his eighth season of professional baseball and first in the Atlantic League. Last year, the former big leaguer split time between the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations, appearing with both clubs' Triple-A teams for a combined 42 games. The outfielder also played five games each with Double-A Tulsa of the Texas League and Single-A Great Lakes of the Midwest League, both Dodgers affiliates. In 52 total minor league games in 2016, he slugged two home runs with 19 RBI and 24 runs scored. The 26-year-old was originally drafted in 2009 by the Detroit Tigers in the sixth round of the MLB draft, and made his Major League debut in 2015. In 701 career minor league games, Daniel owns a .242 batting average with 44 home runs, 279 RBI, 323 runs scored, and 92 stolen bases.
Jonathan Galvez returns to Bridgeport for his third season in the Atlantic League and tenth of professional baseball. The outfielder first came to Bridgeport in 2015 after playing 40 games with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A, New York Yankees). His contract was then purchased by the New York Mets organization, and he finished the campaign with Double-A Binghamton. Last year, Galvez played 95 games with the Bluefish, ending the season with a .283 batting average, nine home runs, 50 RBI, and 54 runs scored. He also represented the 'Fish and the Liberty Division in the 2016 Atlantic League All-Star Game. The 26-year-old began his professional career in 2008 within the San Diego Padres organization. He spent seven years in the Padres farm system, reaching Triple-A in both 2013 and 2014. In 835 career minor league games, Galvez owns a .277 batting average with 65 home runs, 418 RBI and 483 runs scored.
Jose Gil returns to Bridgeport for his 13th season of professional baseball and third in the Atlantic League. Last year, the catcher played 56 games with the 'Fish, ending the season with a .314 batting average, three home runs, 35 RBI and 26 runs scored. The 30-year-old began his professional career in 2005 after being signed by the New York Yankees as an undrafted free agent. He spent his first 10 seasons with the Yankees organization, besides in 2013 when he briefly appeared with two teams in the Baltimore Orioles organization as well as Lincoln of the independent American Association before rejoining the Yankees. Gil has played at the Triple-A Level every year from 2011 through 2015. In 718 career minor league games, Jose owns a .240 batting average with 49 home runs, 304 RBI, and 271 runs scored.
Brian Moran returns to Bridgeport for his eighth season of professional baseball and second in the Atlantic League. Last year, the lefty made 38 appearances with the 'Fish before having his contract purchased by the Atlanta Braves organization, where he was assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett of the International League. While with Bridgeport, he collected a 3.12 ERA with 42 strikeouts across 34.2 innings. The 28-year-old made his professional debut in 2009 after being selected by the Seattle Mariners in the seventh round of the MLB draft. Before coming to Bridgeport in 2016, Moran spent his entire career in the Mariners organization, reaching the Triple-A level in 2012 and 2013. In 270 career minor league appearances, Brian owns 20 victories with a 3.11 ERA and 411 strikeouts in 361.1 innings of work.
Rainy Lara joins the Bluefish for his eighth season of professional baseball and first in the Atlantic League. Last year, the pitcher split time between Triple-A Las Vegas of the Pacific Coast League and Double-A Binghamton of the Eastern League, both affiliate teams of the New York Mets. In 25 combined games, he earned eight victories and struck out 71 batters across 113.1 innings. The 26-year-old made his professional debut with the Mets organization in the Foreign Rookie-level Dominican Summer League. He has been in the Mets farm system for the entirety of his career, reaching the Triple-A level in both 2015 and 2016. In 133 career minor league outings (111 starts), Rainy owns 44 victories with a 3.66 ERA and 489 strikeouts in 642.0 innings pitched.
