First Inning Offense Leads to Shutout Win

(Burlington-IA) - The Burlington Bees (10-14) scored four runs in the first inning on their way to a 6-0 win over the Dayton Dragons (5-20) on Monday night at Community Field.

The Bees bats were hot early. Zach Welz started the night by reaching on a strikeout wlid pitch. After a fly out to left, Hutton Moyer singled, putting runners at first and second. Jared Foster than gave the Bees the lead with a double to left, scoring both Welz and Moyer, putting the Bees on top, 2-0. Juan Moreno made it 3-0, lining a single to left, scoring Foster. The inning was capped off when Ranyelmy Alberto singled up the middle, scoring Moreno, making it 4-0.

Bees starter Ronnie Glenn used just 45 pitches, working five innings without allowing a run. The left hander allowed just two hits and did not walk a batter, while striking out three.

The Bees added a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Jared Foster led off the bottom the sixth inning with an infield single and moved to second on a Tanner Lubach single. After a passed ball moved the runners over, Alex Abbott doubled to right, scoring both runs, upping the Bees to 6-0.

Bees relievers, Winston Lavendier, Tyler Watson, and Adam Hofacket combined to throw four shutout innings, securing the Bees win. Glenn (1-1) earned the win while Jake Johnson (0-3) was charged with the loss. The Bees and the Dragons continue the series on Tuesday night at 6:30.
