SPOKANE, Washington- The Empire has signed defensive back Stephen Godbolt to their 2017 IFL roster.

Godbolt (DB, 5-11, 190, Tennessee State) joins the Empire for his second season as a member of the IFL. Last year with the Tri-Cities Fever, Stephen saw action in 12 games and recorded 48.5 total tackles (43 solos), four tackles for loss, three interceptions, and six pass break-ups.

"Stephen Godbolt is an aggressive corner that has shown the ability to cover the motion and play the run very tough," said Empire Head Coach Adam Shackleford. "We're looking forward to adding him to our experienced secondary and seeing him compete in training camp."

Stephen played his final collegiate season at Webber International University (FL) and saw action in six contests as he recorded 23 total tackles (16 solos), 3.5 tackles for loss, and one interception. Before becoming a WIU Warrior, he played three years at Tennessee State University. As a Tiger, Stephen saw action in 33 games and racked up 112 total tackles, seven interceptions, and 26 pass break-ups. In 2012 he received Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) All-First Team honors and was named to All-American lists by the Sports Network, Associated Press, College Sports News, and SBN Black College. After his Redshirt Freshman in 2011, Stephen was named to the OVC All-Newcomer Team and the FCS Freshman All-American team by the College Sports Journal. He played his prep career at Dixie County High School in Cross City, Florida.
