News Release

Bloomington, Ill. - The Edge are proud to announce the signing of DE Marvin Booker. Booker (6'2, 244) was a member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers before coming to the Edge. Prior to that, Booker played for Rutgers University of the NCAA's Big East Conference.

In 2012, Booker played 10 games for the Scarlet Knights and ended the season with 23 total tackles, 7 tackles for loss, and 1 sack. He also helped lead the team to the Russell Athletic Bowl. To begin his professional career, Booker was a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before moving on to play for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Booker played for one of the brightest minds in football Head Coach Greg Schiano for both the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In 2014, Booker played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers where his position coach was Mike Scheper. Scheper, who is a close personal friend of Bloomington Edge General Manager Charles, had this to say about Booker: "He is a great pro, I really enjoyed coaching him. Amazing story."

Edge Head Coach Ameer Ismail is excited about this addition to his defense which is currently ranked 4th in points per game in the CIF. "I am very excited for the addition of an extremely athletic defensive lineman who played in the CFL", said Ismail. "We are looking for him to make an instant impact and bring lots of energy, passion, and playmaking ability. In my opinion Booker will be getting picked up from a NFL team after the season."

The next Edge home game is Saturday April 22nd versus the Kansas City Phantoms. It is College Night at the Bloomington Coliseum where students can get in for just $10 with their student I.D. For those over 21 years of age, $3 beers will be available while supplies last.
