November 27, 2016 - NBA G League (G League)
Grand Rapids Drive News Release
BROOKLYN -The Grand Rapids Drive (3-3) ended a three-game skid on Sunday afternoon by defeating the Long Island Nets (1-6) by a score of 112-98. The Nets drop their fifth straight game.
Ray McCallum was all over the court for Grand Rapids, as he came close to a triple-double with 27 points, eight rebounds and nine assists. Kevin Murphy had 33 points for the second consecutive game, Zeke Upshaw chipped in 18 points and Chris Anderson had his first double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Trahson Burrell had a monster double-double for Long Island, scoring 24 points and pulling down 15 rebounds. Anthony Bennett also starred with 22 points and eight rebounds.
The Drive did not pull away from the Nets until the fourth quarter. The game was tied at the end of the first quarter, and although the Drive held a 12-point lead at halftime, it was cut to just five entering the fourth quarter. The lead changed hands eleven times and the score was knotted up twice.
The Nets failed to capitalize on some chances for easy buckets, making just 7-of-14 free throws and turning the ball over a whopping 25 times. Their total of 98 points was the lowest the Drive have surrendered all season.
Grand Rapids mended their shooting woes, connecting on 48 percent of their field goal attempts for their best total since the season opener. Their field goal attempt rate was low because they continuously were at the free-throw line, drawing 41 free throw attempts.
The Nets outshot the Drive from beyond the three-point line, registering 34 percent to 30 percent for the Drive, who continue to have trouble from deep.
McCallum (who is currently listed as the #1 prospect in the league eligible for a call-up by Prospect Watch) and the Drive will head to Delaware to play the 87ers on Nov. 29. The Nets stay home for a Nov. 29 tilt with another D-League team in their inaugural season, the Windy City Bulls.
