Dennis Fans Nine, but 'Hawks get Shut Out

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Matt Dennis delivered a strong start, striking out nine over six innings, but the JetHawks lineup was held to one hit in a 3-0 shutout loss to the San Jose Giants on Sunday afternoon at Municipal Stadium.
Dennis (2-6) did not allow a hit until the fifth inning when Jacob Heyward led off with a solo home run. The righty allowed a double and walked a batter later in the frame but struck out Bryce Johnson looking for a third time to strand the runners. He picked up two more strikeouts in a perfect sixth inning.
The JetHawks (17-20) picked up their first and only hit in the fourth when Roberto Ramos lined a single to left field against reliever DJ Myers (3-1). Myers finished the game, tossing six innings without issuing a walk. He struck out four. Logan Webb started for the Giants (22-15) and pitched three innings.
Dennis tossed a season-high 102 pitches and finished with two hits allowed and three walks. Salvador Justo took over in relief for the seventh inning and allowed two runs.
The loss marks the second time Lancaster has been shutout this season and the one hit is a new season-low. The JetHawks had been held to two hits in a game by San Jose on April 9 at The Hangar.
The JetHawks will look to split the series in the finale on Monday night. Logan Longwith (1-3) is scheduled to start opposite San Jose's Mac Marshall (0-0). First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
