Cincinnati Commandos News Release

ERIE, PA - No matter the level of football, defense wins championships. Behind a championship performance, Cincinnati remained unbeaten with the 55-34 victory over Erie Sunday.

With the exception of an UNO to start the game, the Commandos handcuffed an Erie which came into the game averaging 64.6 points per game. The Explosion offense didn't light the scoreboard in the first half.

Cincinnati's defensive line - James Frazier, D'arrell Brown, James Spikes and Terrill Byrd - harrassed Erie quarterback A.J. McKenna all day. The Explosion came into the game yielding just nine sacks all season. The quartet registered 9.5 of the Commandos' 11 sacks of McKenna.

Defensive backs Corry Stewart and Jeff Demary used the constant pressure to haul in two picks each, one in which Demary took back for a pick six that drove the final nail into Erie's coffin. Stewart added a season-high 11 tackles in the Cincinnati victory. Santino Turnbow recorded 10 tackles

Tyler Sheehan finished the game 19-of-41 for 339 yards with seven touchdowns and three interceptions. Phillip Barnett turned into a possession receiver, hauling in a team-high nine receptions with one touchdown, while Nez Mincy turned his fifth catches into four touchdowns with 137 yards.

The Commandos (5-0) return home Saturday to face second-place Marion (5-1). Former Bearcats forward Eric Hicks will suit up for the Commandos in the game as tickets prices start at $6. In addition to the ticket prices, the team will be offering $1 Donatos pizza and $1 beers leading up to kickoff.

The Cincinnati Commandos are the longest-tenured professional indoor football team in the city of Cincinnati. All seven home games are played at the historic Cincinnati Gardens. Tickets are currently on sale via TicketMaster or via the Cincinnati Gardens box office, calling (513) 631-7793 or visiting in person at 2250 Seymour Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45212.
