Lafayette Wildcatters News Release

LAFAYETTE, LA - After falling victim to another road loss, the Lafayette Wildcatters (1-4) of the Southern Indoor Football League return home to take on the North Texas Crunch (0-1) in a non-conference game.

The Wildcatters return home after a resounding 42-26 loss by the hands of the Albany Panthers last Saturday. In a game that is offensive friendly, the Panthers shut down Lafayette's offense holding them to only 164 yards of total offense. Coming off a stellar performance in which he led a 15-point comeback the previous week, Wildcatters Bo Bartik struggled to find a groove against the Albany defense only completing 8 of 17 passes for 68 yards and two touchdowns.

An anemic offense has been the theme for Lafayette's struggle on the field with the offense ranking last in many offensive categories such as scoring offense (40 pts/game), pass offense (192 yds/game), and total offense (219 yds/game). Even when the offense creates scoring opportunities they have failed to capitalize only converting 8 of 18 opportunities in the red zone, lowest in the SIFL.

The defense hasn't faired much better only holding opponents to 280 yards on offense while opposing quarterbacks are completing over 50% of their passes, highest rate in the league. One bright spot on the Wildcatters defense has been defensive back Clarence Pendleton and his six interceptions. The Catters defensive front ranks second in sacks with Eric Phillips leading the club with three.

Members of the Independent Indoor Football Alliance (IIFA), the North Texas Crunch (6-0) currently sit at top the league standings and are coming off a 34-6 victory over the Southlake Pirates. This weekends game against the Crunch is serving as a replacement game after the SIFL decided that the Houston Lightning would be unable to compete this season.

Sunday will make the Crunch's second appearance in the SIFL after starring the leagues season openers against the Louisiana Swashbucklers. The two-time IIFA champions did not fare well in the opening game falling 88-6 to the Bucs.

The Lafayette Wildcatters and the North Texas Crunch square off in a Sunday matinee with first kickoff slated for 3:30 pm CT. To track all the action, log on to www.southernifl.com and follow the live twitter feed.
