The 3-0 first place Cape Fear Heroes have added to their coaching staff during the bye week by adding veteran indoor coach Chris McKinney. He later went on to play professional football for the South Ga. Wildcats and the Florida Firecats all three teams where members of Af2. Chris will be a huge asset to the Heroes, he is someone that became available this week that we just could not pass up on. Timing is sometimes perfect, I have a strong knowledge of Chris's coaching philosophy and it fits right into our theme of "Bringing it Back Home" as the Heroes seek their second league championship in Fayetteville says Coach Gunnz. Chris's assigned responsibilities will be working with the Heroes quarterbacks and receivers on offense and working with special teams the same position he held with the AF1 Philadelphia Soul.
McKinney comes to the Heroes from the St. Louis Attack where he was 2-2 this year as head coach. Last season Chris was the 2014 X-League Head Coach of the Year where he finished the regular season undefeated boasting an 8-0 record. McKinney previously served as the Offensive Coordinator for the Georgia Rampage of the X-League before becoming, the Wide Receiver and Special Teams Coach for the Philadelphia Soul of the AFL. While with the Soul, his team won the American East Conference and was the Arena Bowl Runner-Up.
Chris is a graduate and former football player of Guilford College in Greensboro North Carolina.
