Bloomington Edge News Release
Bloomington, IL. - The Bloomington Edge held their first tryout since moving up to the Indoor Football League on September 23rd, and signed six prospects to contracts immediately following that workout. Many of those signed are new to professional indoor football including running back Anthony Martin II from Baylor and Sal Ross, wide receiver De'Carlos Poole from Quincy University, wide receiver Devin Childress from Northpark, linebacker Cameron Hall from Elmhurst College, and wide receiver Shaquille Brooks. The Edge also signed defensive back Dorian Polk from the University of Albany who played one game last season with the Buffalo Blitz of the Can-Am League.
"This was without a doubt the most talent we have had at one of our tryouts," remarked head football coach Nick Ruud. "Our staff did a great job finding high level talent, and getting them to Bloomington to tryout. The move up to the IFL also helped getting top guys here."
The IFL allows each team to bring 40players into training camp which starts in early February. Teams must cut their active roster down to 21 players by the Thursday before their first game. Each team is also allowed to retain an additional four practice squad players.
The Edge made several personnel moves ahead of the September tryout to make sure there were roster spots available for multiple prospects.
According to the team's General Manager Charles Welde, the Edge wanted to make sure contracts were up for grabs. "It was important to us that every player who registered for our tryout knew they had a legitimate chance to leave with a contract," Welde commented. "We are not holding tryouts to generate revenue," he continued, "we are actively looking for the best players in the country to help us win a championship."
With several roster spots still open, the edge will be holding one additional tryout in November, possibly in the greater St. Louis area.
"There is so much talent in St. Louis," Coach Ruud said, "and it is only two hours from Bloomington, so it makes sense to try and tap into that market. Future tryout times and locations will be posted on the Bloomington Facebook page as well as www.bloomingtonege.net.
The Bloomington Edge recently rolled out a "Flex" season ticket package allowing fans to use their season tickets in any combination for any game. For more information and to order your Flex tickets please contact the Edge at 484-840-3343.
