Bighorns Drop Saturday Matinee in Greensboro

Greensboro, N.C. ---- The Reno Bighorns (11-22) fell to the Greensboro Swarm (12-23) 113-105 Saturday afternoon at The Fieldhouse in Greensboro, NC.

Gary Neal led the Bighorns with 24 points, five rebounds and two assists while Reggie Hearn notched 14 points and six rebounds. Will Davis II and Kadeem Jack both poured in 14 points each during the Saturday matinee.

Archie Goodwin paced the Swarm with 26 points, four rebounds and four assists while Cat Barber totaled 24 points, six rebounds and six assists.

The teams remained close in the opening minutes of the game until Greensboro went on a 13-2 run to take a 12-point advantage by the 5:34 mark. The Bighorns chipped away at the deficit to trail by four to enter the second frame.

The opening minutes of the second quarter would see four lead changes and three ties with the Bighorns leading by three at the 7:45 mark. The swarm responded with an 11-2 run behind a triple from Ralston Turner. The Bighorns would cut the deficit to two before the Swarm would rally to have a 57-48 lead heading into the break.

Despite the Bighorns winning the third frame 26-23, the Swarm would continue to hold the edge throughout the quarter.

The Bighorns picked up momentum opening the final frame on a 10-4 run to knot the score up at 84 with 8:54 left in play. Two minutes later, a lay-up from Neal gave the Bighorns their first lead since the second quarter. The Swarm quickly retook control of the lead after a jumper from Cheick Diallo. The Bighorns stayed within striking distance until Greensboro went on a late rally, resulting in a Swarm victory.

The Bighorns will next travel to Des Moines to face the Iowa Energy on Monday, Feb. 13 at 5 p.m.
