
Bighorns Defeat the D-Fenders in Wire-To-Wire Battle

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. ---- The Reno Bighorns (14-26) defeated the Los Angeles D-Fenders (29-12) 114-106 Friday night at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo, CA.
David Stockton led the Bighorns with 27 points, three rebounds and six assists while Sacramento Kings Assignment Player Georgios Papagiannis recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Kendall Marshall logged a double-double in the Friday night contest with 21 points and 10 assists.
Vander Blue paced the D-Fenders with 27 points, 8 rebounds and four assists while Ivica Zubac recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
The opening minutes of the first frame would set the tone for the tight-knit game between the two teams. Los Angeles would have a 60.0% team shooting effort from beyond-the-arc while the Bighorns shot 44.4% from three-point range. Despite the Bighorns leading by as many as eight in the frame, the two teams would be knotted up at 29 going into the second quarter.
The Bighorns took control of the lead after a triple from Luis Montero in the opening minutes of the second frame before the D-Fender's regained momentum to lead the Bighorns by as many as 14 points going into the locker room at the half.
The Bighorns went on a 20-6 run coming out of the break to take a 67-65 lead at the 6:55 mark. Reno would open their lead to as many as eight points before Los Angeles would rally back to edge the Bighorns 80-79 to enter the final frame. The Bighorns outscored the D-Fenders 33-20 in the third frame behind nine points from Isaiah Cousins.
The D-Fenders retook control of the lead early after a lay-up from Deshawn Stephens. The teams alternated the lead once and tied three times by the 4:01 mark before Reggie Hearn scored a triple to give the Bighorns a three point lead triggering a 13-4 run to pull ahead by as many as 10 points. The Bighorns would never relinquish the lead, resulting in a Bighorns victory.
Stockton scored 21 of his 27 points in the second half.
Reno will next host the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Monday, Mar. 13 at 7 p.m.
