Reno Bighorns News Release
RENO, NV- The Reno Bighorns announced today the members of Head Coach Darrick Martin's coaching staff for the 2016-17 season, naming Rico Hines and Scott Schroeder as assistant coaches.
"I am proud of the devoted and hard-working coaching staff we have united," said Martin. "I'm confident this staff with their own unique experiences will develop players into professionals on and off the court."
Hines, who will serve as Martin's lead assistant, brings more than 10 years of NBA experience to the Biggest Little City where he was the assistant of player development for the Golden State Warriors (2006-2010) under NBA Hall of Fame Coach Don Nelson. Hines most recently completed his fifth season with St. John's Red Storm as an assistant coach alongside head coach Steve Lavin, helping lead the organization to two NCAA Tournament appearances.
The North Carolina native played collegiately at UCLA, where he helped guide the Bruins to five straight NCAA Tournament appearances (redshirted 2000-01), which included four trips to the Sweet 16 (1996-98, 2000-02).
Schroeder begins his fourth season with the Bighorns as an assistant coach/director of player personnel. Since joining the Bighorns, he has helped lead the team to two playoff appearances. Schroeder has also served as director of basketball operations for the Sioux Falls Skyforce where he assisted in improving the team's record by 10 wins during the 2012-13 season. The North Dakota native joined the Dakota Wizards (currently Santa Cruz Warriors) front office for four seasons as the director of media relations (2006-10).
It was also announced that Jervae Odom will join the Bighorns for his sixth season as the team's strength coach and athletic trainer.
The Reno Bighorns open the 2016-17 season on the road against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Sunday, Nov. 13 before playing their first regular season home game on Saturday, Nov. 19 against the Oklahoma City Blue.
