Balanced Scoring Leads BayHawks to Victory

Erie, Pennsylvania - The Erie BayHawks defeated the Fort Wayne Mad Ants 104-82 behind balanced scoring and strong defensive play this evening at Erie Insurance Arena to earn their third straight win.

The BayHawks jump-started the game with an 11-3 run and didn't look back from there. The Mad Ants used six Walter Lemon Jr. points to pull the score within three at 14-11 midway through the quarter. Devyn Marble answered by scoring six consecutive points and widened the scoring gap to the tune of 26-15. The quarter was closed by a Melvin Ejim layup and two Keith Appling free throws to get the score to 28-15. The Mad Ants shot only 33% compared to the BayHawks' 57% in the quarter. It is the third time in as many games that they BayHawks have held their opponents under 40% shooing in the first quarter.

The Mad Ants' shooting woes continued into the second quarter. Lemon propelled Fort Wayne's offense with 11 points in the first half. The Mad Ants were hurt with the loss of forward Rakeem Christmas for much of the second quarter. Christmas came into the game wearing a mask to shield his broken nose and left at the beginning of the second quarter when he took an elbow.

The Mad Ants chipped into the 20-point BayHawks lead at the beginning of the third quarter but ultimately only scored 17 points in the quarter and let the score widen by 20 again, 72-52. Rakeem Christmas returned to the game after reinjuring his nose in the second and quickly put up six points.

The fourth quarter held even play for both teams. For a three minute stretch in the quarter, Ejim had all 12 of the BayHawks' points. Anthony Harris came off the bench for Fort Wayne and scored all 14 points of his points in the quarter.

Lemon Jr. had 18 points and five assists. Despite missing much of a quarter, Christmas posted 11 points and four rebounds.

Appling and Ejim paced the BayHawks with 21 points apiece. Ejim added nine rebounds and five assists while Appling tallied seven assists. Marble added 20 points. Nine of ten active Erie players posted points.

The BayHawks take their three-game win streak up against the Westchester Knicks at home on Friday, 7pm for Game Show Night.
