Grand Rapids Drive News Release
GRAND RAPIDS - November 5, 2017 - The Grand Rapids Drive (2-0) kept their young season perfect by defeating defending G League champs Raptors 905 (0-1) at home on Sunday afternoon by a 112-106 final. Luke Kennard and Henry Ellenson, both assigned by the Pistons on Saturday, led the way for Grand Rapids.
Ellenson had 28 points and nine rebounds and Kennard scored 26 points and picked up four steals. The duo was particularly effective drawing fouls, as they attempted a combined 23 free throws and made 18 of them to raise their efficiency and boost the Drive.
Luis Montero chipped in 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting for the Drive, Landry Nnoko had eight points, 11 rebounds and three blocks, and Derek Willis scored seven points off the bench and led all players with a plus/minus of +19.
Lorenzo Brown scored 27 points with eight assists and five steals against his former team for the 905, also leading all players with 42 minutes as the 905 only had eight active players for the contest. Davion Berry chipped in 20 points and Aaron Best 17 to aid the visitors.
Similar to their season opener, the Drive got off to a hot start before letting their opponents back in the game later on. Grand Rapids ended the first quarter up 31-22 and held a seven-point halftime advantage, but the 905 pulled within two heading into the fourth quarter.
Ultimately, though, the Drive were too potent offensively to allow for a full comeback, even against last year's top-ranked defense. They scored at least 25 points in each quarter and shot 51 percent from the field and 46 percent from three-point range. The 905 were not exactly struggling either at 52 percent from the field and 39 percent from deep, but they drew 10 fewer free throws and were not able to gain any advantage in the turnover department.
The Drive will look to keep the early-season winning going with their third consecutive home game against the Windy City Bulls on Tuesday. The 905's next game is their home opener against Long Island on Wednesday.
