October 14, 2016 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release

Lots of action during this fourth week of activity in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The long Thanksgiving weekend has allowed us to see loved ones and catch a game or two.

Let's start with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. Dominant once again, the team stands atop the standings, still undefeated in regulation time this season. Gilles Bouchard' club, has a record of six wins and one shootout loss since the beginning of the campaign. Followed closely by the Shawinigan Cataractes with a difference of only one point. In Baie-Comeau, Yannick Lehoux gets his jersey retired after a 4-season career with the team.

The 2016-2017 season in the National Hockey League has started and two QMJHL players have managed to break the roster of their respective teams.

Anthony Beauvillier, a former member of the Shawinigan Cataractes, has carved out a position with the New York Islanders. His first NHL game last Thursday night against the Rangers, concluded with an assist and almost 11 minutes of ice time. A first point in his first National Hockey League career game.

Thomas Chabot, defenceman who played with the Saint John Sea Dogs, also managed to convince the management of the team, the Ottawa Senators, for a spot at the blue line. His first game, however, will have to wait.

This was not the case for the Screaming Eagles forward Pierre-Luc Dubois, who returned to the maritimes last Wednesday. Third overall pick in the 2016 NHL draft, Dubois unfortunately didn't earn a spot with the Columbus Blue Jackets. The scenario was also the same for Alexandre Fortin of the Chicago Blackhawks, reassigned earlier this week. Fortin will join the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies for their next game this weekend.

Fans of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar were treated, on October 8, to Yannick Lehoux's #26 number being retired. He joins Maxime Fortinus, who received the same honour in 2010. Lehoux holds the record for the highest number of points in Drakkar's uniform. He finished his last two seasons with 135 and 125 points, for a grand total of 382 points with 164 goals. A long weekend full of emotions for his family. It was also an opportunity to reconnect with former members of the organization.

The 19-year-old player Cameron Askew was rewarded for his work last weekend. Not only was he named the first star of the week in the QMJHL and CHL. Askew allowed the Wildcats to win both home games by collecting 3 goals and adding 3 assists including the winning goal in a 3-2 victory against the Olympiques. In addition, the second star in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League is attributed to Samuel Montembeault and the third to Samuel Girard. Details here - > eek
