Timbers Recognized as Most Philanthropic Medium-Sized Company

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers have been recognized as the most philanthropic medium-sized company by the Portland Business Journal at the 2015 Corporate Philanthropy Awards, it was announced today.
The Timbers were recognized for their financial contributions through the Portland Timbers Community Fund (PTCF) and to various local nonprofit organizations as well as their volunteer work through the club's community outreach platform, Stand Together.
Since the club's inaugural MLS season in 2011, the Timbers have given more than $2.7 million in cash and in-kind donations, including their philanthropic work through the PTCF, the club's field-grants program, and various experiential and charitable activities. Recognizing contributions over the previous year, the club gave more than $480,000 in cash and in-kind donations, while the organization committed thousands of volunteer hours, including more than 2,500 hours during Stand Together Week in 2014. Stand Together Week encourages a culture of giving back throughout the city, raising visibility of important nonprofit organizations and making a difference in the community.
The club, which has won multiple Corporate Philanthropy Awards from the Portland Business Journal, was among the top five in the medium-sized company category at the 2014 Corporate Philanthropy Awards. In addition, the Timbers were honored with their third straight MLS Marisa Colaiano Community Relations Department of the Year award in 2014 and were an ESPN Sports Humanitarian Team of the Year finalist at the inaugural awards event in July 2014.
The Portland Business Journal's annual Corporate Philanthropy Awards celebrate corporate giving and innovation. This year's Corporate Philanthropy Awards recognized the top 10 large, medium and small companies for their non-profit cash contributions, while noting their in-kind donations and employee volunteer hours to local charities in 2014.
The Timbers were among those honored at the Corporate Philanthropy Awards Luncheon on Friday, Oct. 9.
