Bees Take Care of Rattlers, 10-6

(Burlington-IA)- Trevor Gretzky and Ayendy Perez combined to drive in six of the Burlington Bees (61-76) 10 runs in a 10-6 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (50-87) on Saturday night at Community Field.
After the Bees opened the scoring in the second inning on a Trever Allen double play, the Bees offense sent eight men to the plate in the third inning. With one out Brandon Gildea smacked a triple to right center and then scored on an Ayendy Perez single to center, upping the lead to 2-0. Later in the inning, Zach Houchins knocked in Perez with a single and then Trevor Gretzky singled in a pair, putting the Bees' lead at 5-0.
Wisconsin started to rally in the fourth inning, stringing four hits together in a row, scoring a pair of runs thanks to a RBI triple by Omar Cotto and an RBI single by Luis Aviles. Trailing by three, Jake Gatewood cut the Bees' lead to one, mashing a two run home run in the top of the fifth inning, bringing the score to 5-4.
Tim Arakawa started the bottom of the fifth inning with a single and came around to score on a Taylor Ward double, putting the Bees' lead to 6-4. Trevor Gretzky picked up his third RBI of the game, knocking in Taylor Ward with a sacrifice fly, giving the Bees the 7-4 lead. The Bees went on to make it 8-4 in the sixth inning thanks to a bases loaded walk to Ward.
After Greg McCall cut the lead to three with a run scoring single in the top of the seventh inning, the Bees loaded the bases in the bottom half of the seventh inning, scoring two runs on an Ayendy Perez double. Wisconsin added a run in the ninth inning on a Sthervin Matos single, scoring Jake Gatewood, but the Bees held on for the 10-6 win.
Bees' starting pitcher Keynan Middleton (6-11) earned the win while Wisconsin starter Eric Hanhold (0-4) was charged with the loss. The Bees and the Timber Rattlers continue their series on Sunday afternoon when Justin Anderson starts for the Bees against Cody Ponce for Wisconsin.
