Can-Am League Game Recaps

August 28, 2015 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

Trois-Rivieres 5, Quebec 3

In front of 6,022 fans, three-time MLB all-star Eric Gagne toed the rubber for the Trois-Rivieres Aigles Friday night. The former National League Cy Young winner pitched 4.1 innings and allowed just two hits, and the Aigles defeated the Quebec Capitales 5-3. After Gagne exited the game, Mike Bradstreet pitched 3.2 innings and allowed zero earned runs. Kaohi Downing took the ball for the final inning and pitched a perfect ninth to get the save.

Trois-Rivieres put some runs on the board first with CF Steve Brown's two-run homer in the third. RF Javier Herrera added a solo homer in the eighth for the Aigles. 1B Daniel Mateo had three hits for Trois-Rivieres. Quebec's 1B Joash Brodin and 3B Cedric Vallieres hit RBI singles.

Ottawa 2, Garden State 1

Friday's match between the Ottawa Champions and Garden State Grays was a pitcher's duel for most of the game, but late back and forth scoring tipped in Ottawa's favor with a walk off win. In the bottom of the ninth, 3B Roberto Ramirez slapped a double to score 1B Bryce Massanari to give the Champions the win. This came half an inning after Garden State's DH Joe Poletsky tied the game at one on a wild pitch. And that play came after Ottawa scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the eighth off 2B Albert Cartwright's RBI single.

Ottawa starter Laetten Galbraith went seven innings without a run allowed. He handed the ball off to Nate Baker, who pitched a perfect inning and struck out two. Alan DeRatt picked up the win after pitching the ninth. Garden State starting pitcher Will Scott also played well - he gave up no runs in 6.2 innings of work.

Rockland 4, Sussex County 2

Rockland Boulders starting pitcher Bo Budkevics nearly went the distance against Sussex County, but even still, it was his great pitching that led his team to a 4-2 win over the Miners. Budkevics pitched 8.2 innings and allowed just one earned run, but he gave way to Luis Sanz to record the final out and get the save. Meanwhile, Sussex County starter, Julio Rodriguez, allowed just one run in six innings of work.

Rockland scored its four runs despite only recording four hits on the night. That's partially due to eight walks it earned, including two apiece from CF Jared McDonald, SS Junior Arrojo and RF Joe Maloney. 3B Devin Thaut led Sussex County with two hits.

Gary SouthShore 6, New Jersey 6 - In Progress

The game between the Gary SouthShore RailCats and the New Jersey Jackals is still in progress with the game tied 6-6. Check back on www.canamleague.com for the final recap.
