San Jose Giants Extend Player Development Contract with San Francisco Giants

San Jose, CA- The San Jose Giants have announced a two-year extension to their Player Development Contract with the San Francisco Giants. The contract extension will keep San Jose an affiliate of San Francisco through the 2016 season.

"We're extremely pleased to maintain our relationship with the San Francisco Giants and continue developing future major leaguers." said San Jose Giants Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Mark Wilson. "In the 27-year affiliation between the two teams, the San Jose Giants have produced 173 major leaguers, 125 of whom played or currently play for San Francisco. This extension ensures that fans in San Jose will continue to see top San Francisco Giants prospects at Municipal Stadium for the foreseeable future."

16 former San Jose Giants have appeared on this year's San Francisco Giants playoff rosters, including: 2012 National League MVP Buster Posey, two-time Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum, 2012 World Series MVP Pablo Sandoval, Brandon Belt, Madison Bumgarner, Brandon Crawford, Joe Panik, Sergio Romo, Hunter Strickland, Andrew Susac, and Ryan Vogelsong. Since becoming affiliated with San Francisco in 1988, the San Jose Giants have reached the playoffs in 20 out of 27 seasons, won nine North Division Titles and claimed six California League Championships (2010, 2009, 2007, 2005, 2001 and 1998).

"Our partnership with the San Jose Giants has lasted nearly three decades and the relationship between the two organizations could not be stronger," said San Francisco Giants Vice President and Assistant General Manager Bobby Evans. "The hard-working front office along with the team's strong fan base make San Jose a great place for our top prospects to develop on and off the field."

First pitch for the 2015 San Jose Giants home opener will take place Thursday, April 16 against the Bakersfield Blaze. San Jose's 2015 season begins on Thursday, April 9 in Lancaster. The Giants will host games at Municipal Stadium on Mother's Day (May 10), Memorial Day (May 25), Father's Day (June 21) and Independence Day (July 4).
