Colorado Springs, CO - Johnny Giavotella had his sixth consecutive two-hit game and drove in two runs as Omaha held off Colorado Springs, 6-5, Saturday night in the middle meeting of a five-game set at Security Service Field. The Storm Chasers improved to 63-57 and moved to within a half-game of the first place Iowa Cubs, pending the outcome of their game in Oklahoma City, in the American Conference North Division.

After being retired in order in the first inning, the Storm Chasers collected eight hits and scored all of their runs in the second. The rally started with a lead off long ball by Carlos Peguero, his 20th of the season and sixth in his last nine games, and finished with consecutive two-run doubles from Pedro Ciriaco and Giavotella. However, the hosts took advantage of two hit batters, a walk, two errors and mixed in two singles as well to counter with four in the bottom half of the frame against John Lamb.

Sky Sox starter Mike McClendon departed with two runners on and two outs in the sixth after yielding 13 hits and was replaced by Christian Friedrich, who walked Giavotella to load the bases but struck out Paulo Orlando to end the threat. The left-hander then held the Chasers scoreless through the seventh and eighth innings and was lifted after retiring Peguero to open the ninth. Brooks Brown came on and set down both hitters he faced in his first outing against the Storm Chasers.

Lamb lasted six innings and earned the victory after allowing four runs, none earned, on three hits while issuing a trio of walks and striking out four. Malcom Culver took over in his Triple-A debut and worked a scoreless seventh before allowing an RBI double to Dustin Garneau that finished the scoring. The right-hander got Matt McBride, who tied Friday night's contest with a seventh inning home run, to bounce into a game-ending double play to earn the save and provide some rest for a weary bullpen, as Omaha ran its' record to a league-best 20-13 in one-run games.

The series continues Sunday evening with Omaha right-hander Clay Mortensen returning from the disabled list to make the start against Sky Sox right-hander Chad Bettis. Coverage of the game gets underway at 5:45 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
