Revs Will Accept Bitcoin for Tickets in 2014
March 20, 2014 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release
(York, PA): The York Revolution are aiming to be the first professional baseball team to accept Bitcoin, online digital currency, as a means of buying game tickets for the 2014 season.
The organization has partnered with Crypto Coin Consulting, an online currency consulting group, to launch the program. The company is a startup launched in 2013 in York to provide businesses an outlet to accept digital currency.
Fans and Bitcoin enthusiasts may make a Bitcoin transaction for 2014 individual game tickets only starting Monday, March 24 by scanning the Revolution QR code with their mobile device. This can only be done in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket office at Santander Stadium.
(What is Bitcoin? Fans scan a QR code, and the Revolution receives the "Bitcoin." Then, the Bitcoin is sold on an exchange for USD, with the money deposited into the team's account.)
"It's as easy as text messaging money" said Joe Blanschan, President and co-founder of Crypto Coin Consulting. "By teaching companies how to utilize these technologies we can save them a great deal of money each year by eliminating transaction fees."
For Revolution fans, utilizing Bitcoin to purchase tickets is a way to avoid typical online transaction fees when purchasing tickets.
"It really is a revolution in the way transactions will take place, and it only makes sense that the York Revolution is our first major client" says Charles Richards CEO and co-founder of Crypto Coin Consulting.
The goal of Crypto Coin Consulting is to educate business owners and to show them how they can integrate these new forms of payment methods into their preexisting operating systems. With the Revolution always looking to make ticket buying more convenient for their fans, this led to a natural partnership between the two companies.
"This is a good fit for us," said team President & General Manger Eric Menzer. "We like being first at things, and we like supporting local businesses that are trying to grow in Central Pennsylvania. This partnership allows us to do both."
The 2014 Atlantic League season begins on April 24 when the Revolution hosts the Camden Riversharks at Santander Stadium at 6:30 p.m.
The York Revolution Professional Baseball Club is a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. 2014 will be the Revolution's eighth season of operation at Santander Stadium, the centerpiece of Downtown York, PA, located at 5 Brooks Robinson Way. The facility hosts all 70 home games in addition to myriad events through the entire calendar year.
