Illinois Piasa Suffers 9-5 Home Loss to Detroit WazaDecember 9, 2013 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) - Illinois Piasa
The Waza struck first less than three minutes into the match as Victor Otieno found an open Zach Bowman, who slotted home to give Detroit an early lead at 2:41.
A mere 18 seconds later though, the Piasa equalized as Senad Cavka found the back of the net off an Anel Ibricic assist at 3:00.
And at 5:37, the Piasa took the lead, as Roger Gemoules was able to slot home past Waza goalkeeper Joe Kapinos to make it 2-1 after some extended Piasa possession in the Waza zone.
The Waza started the second quarter hot as they scored just 35 seconds in. Miki Djerisilo found Doug Rice to tie the game up at 2-2. And moments later, the Waza were back in front as returning Piasa goalkeeper Alan Hagerty was unable to clear the ball and Bowman was able to head it home to make it 3-2 at 1:07.
And with 2:20 left in the half, the Waza found the net again as Nik Djokic found space at the top of the box and fired a low, powerful shot past Hagerty to make it 4-2.
The third quarter started out slow, but the Waza extended their lead again to 5-2 with a power play goal from Djerisilo at 7:52 with Jon Fridal in the penalty box for the Piasa.
The Piasa went on the power play with 5:40 left in the third, but were unable to capitalize. Shortly after, Ibricic was shown a red card for dissent and was ejected for the remainder of the match.
And with two minutes to go in the quarter, it was 6-2 Waza as Djerisilo registered his second assist, this time finding Daniel Martini Mattos right in front of net for the easy tap-in.
But it was Gemoules a mere ten seconds later restoring it to a three-goal deficit. He scored off a beautiful volley with 1:50 to go in the third to make it 6-3.
The Waza restored their four-goal edge at the 4:23 mark in the fourth. Ricky Andrews was sent to the penalty box for a hard slide tackle and Costea Decu took advantage on the ensuing Detroit power play to make it 7-3. Shortly after, Muriz Smajic received another penalty for the Piasa for tripping and Djerisilo notched his third assist, finding Decu to make it 8-3 at the 7:24 mark. And Detroit made it 9-3 as Decu scored his third straight goal at 9:15.
The Piasa got one back at the 11:07 mark as Roger Gemoules notched a hat trick of his own when he tapped in Almin Sabotic's long distance shot to make the score 9-4.
And they weren't done yet. Following a Waza penalty, Andrews found Damir Kordic at the 11:49 mark to make it 9-5 with just over three minutes to go.
The Piasa couldn't find another though and the game ended in a 9-5 loss.
