
Mavericks Add Forward Castonguay and Defenseman Courtney

Independence, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks announced Saturday the Central Hockey League (CHL) team has signed forward Eric Castonguay and rookie defenseman Shawn Courtney for the 2013-14 season. The Mavericks are currently at 19 players signed to their pre-season roster.
Castonguay, 26 (9/18/87), spent the last two season playing in France finishing with 79 points (20-5979) in 52 games. Prior to France, he spent three seasons splitting time in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) and the American Hockey League (AHL). He totaled an impressive 147 point (59-88147) in 166 games in the ECHL and had 17 points (7-1017) in the AHL.
"Eric is a very skilled centerman with a big shot and has shown great proficiency in scoring goals. This signing makes us a more dangerous offensive hockey club," Hillman said. "Shawn is a young defenseman who will bring his hard-nosed style of play to Missouri to earn a spot in our opening day roster. This signing helps increase the size and grit of our blue line. He is a very good team player and comes to us after spending four years with NCAA division III powerhouse Adrian College."
Courtney, 24 (9/14/88), spent the last four seasons at Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan. Courtney finished his college career with 25 points (2-2325) in 74 games. Courtney spent the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons playing in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) for the Weyburn Red Wings where he accumulated 27 points ( 6-2127) in 74 games.
