FC Edmonton News Release
EDMONTON, Ab. - Despite the bye week, FC Edmonton remains in the hunt for the Spring Season Championship sitting just three points behind league leaders Carolina RailHawks.
The Eddies take on the last place Fort Lauderdale Strikers on Sunday. Kick-off is 2 p.m. and tickets are available at the gate or by calling 780.700.2600 or online at www.fcedmonton.com.
Only three points separate five teams from the top spot in the 2013 NASL standings going into Week 8 and the first place RailHawks have a bye this week. Four clubs - FC Edmonton, Atlanta Silverbacks, Minnesota United FC and Tampa Bay Rowdies - all have the chance to capture sole possession of first place.
"We had a week off to get healthy and prepared for the Strikers on Sunday, which is exactly what we needed after a tough stretch of games over a two week period," said Eddies coach Colin Miller. "We are in a good position now, just three points out of top spot. If we get results out of our four remaining home games, we have a chance at the Championship. That's our goal."
The previous meeting between the two sides ended in a 1-1 draw at Lockhart Stadium to open the 2013 campaign in April.
Following the match, coach Miller will exchange his Eddies gear for that of the Canadian Men's National Team. Miller was named the interim coach of the squad and will lead the lads against Costa Rica on Tuesday at Commonwealth.
A handful of national team players will be FC Edmonton guests at Sunday's game and will be honoured at halftime.
Fans will have the opportunity to meet some of the players and get autographs prior to Tuesday's friendly. For tickets to that game, go to www.ticketmaster.ca.
