Jackson Generals News Release
JACKSON, TENN - (May 19, 2013) - The Birmingham Barons (28-16) scored 10 times and tallied 15 hits against the Jackson Generals (18-24) Sunday, taking game four of the series 10-4. The loss forces the rubber match of the series on Monday, with the series tied 2-2.
The Barons were led by Tyler Saladino (3-5, RBI, R) and Marcus Semien (2-6, 2 RBI, R) who contributed to the team scoring in five consecutive innings, from the second to the sixth. They had three-run innings in both the third and fifth, as Birmingham was never fooled by Jackson's starting pitcher, Taijuan Walker.
Walker (L, 3-4, 2.77) was roughed up for his worst start of the season. The right-hander only went 4.2 innings, as he allowed season-highs in runs, earned runs and hits. Walker struck out five hitters, but the Barons forced Walker to his shorting outing of the season.
The Generals offense, dormant for a majority of the game, showed some life in the eighth inning. Brandon Bantz (1-2, R, RBI, HR), who replaced John Hicks (1-2) after he was injured running a ball out to first base in the third, capped the four-run eighth with a bomb over the wall in left. It would be the only runs Jackson would manage though.
Right-hander Nick McCully (W, 3-1, 3.67) made a spot-start for the Barons and did not allow a run in five innings of work. Jackson only managed three hits off McCully, who grabbed his first win on the road this season.
The rubber match of the series will start at 12:05 CST Monday. Jackson pitcher Brett Shankin (2-1, 4.22) will be opposed by Scott Snodgrass (5-2, 4.13). Remember that if you can't make it to the ballpark, the game can be heard on 96.5 ESPN Radio, TuneIn Radio App. and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
