CHICAGO (May 14, 2013) - Western New York Flash striker Abby Wambach was voted the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the media for Week 5 of the 2013 NWSL season.

Wambach, 32, scored both goals for the Western New York Flash in a 2-1 victory over FC Kansas City on Saturday at Shalen's Stadium in Rochester, N.Y.

The U.S. international scored twice in five minutes during the first half to stake the Flash to a 2-0 halftime lead. It was the first time a player or team scored two or more goals against FC Kansas City. Wambach also had four shots (all on goal) and suffered two fouls while playing the full 90 minutes.

The two goals moved Wambach's total for the season to three - tied for the second best in the league. The Rochester, N.Y. native also ranks third in the NWSL in shots (16) and shots on goal (10).

The Western New York Flash will return to action Friday, May 24 at 7:05 p.m. ET against the Chicago Red Stars at Shalen's Stadium in Rochester, N.Y.

The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a selection of journalists that cover the league on a consistent basis.
