Mooseheads' Konrad Abeltshauser Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that defenceman Konrad Abeltshauser of the Halifax Mooseheads is the CHL Player of the Week for the playoff week ending May 5 after scoring two goals and one assist for three points in two games with a plus-minus rating of plus-4.

Abeltshauser helped the Mooseheads gain a 2-0 series lead over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in the QMJHL Final for the President Cup. He scored the first goal of the series late in the second period of Game 1 last Friday night which held as the game-winner and later added an assist in the 4-0 victory. In Game 2 of the series on Saturday he scored his sixth goal of the playoffs and was named third star of the 4-3 win. The series now shifts to Baie-Comeau with Game 3 set for Tuesday night, and Game 4 scheduled for Wednesday.

Abeltshauser, a 20-year-old Germany native, is playing in his fourth QMJHL season with the Mooseheads. A 2010 pick of the San Jose Sharks, Abeltshauser has 15 points in 14 playoff games after finishing fifth in QMJHL scoring among defencemen with a career-high 54 points in 56 games.

Also considered for the award this week was Mark Scheifele of the Barrie Colts who scored a goal and three assists for four points in three games, and Stephane Legault of the Edmonton Oil Kings who picked up four assists in three games. Scheifele and the Colts currently lead the London Knights 2-1 in the OHL Championship Series for the Robertson Cup, while Legault and the Oil Kings are currently tied 1-1 with the Winterhawks in the WHL Championship Series for the Ed Chynoweth Cup.
