Wilmington, NC - The Wilmington Hammerheads will travel to the West Coast this weekend for a double header versus the Los Angeles Blues on Friday, April 26 at Titan Stadium followed by Phoenix FC Wolves on Sunday, April 28 at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium. The Hammerheads and Blues will kick off at 10:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Friday and at 10:30 p.m. EST on Sunday versus the Wolves.
Wilmington is coming off their first game of the season with a 2-0 win versus Antigua Barracuda FC at Legion Stadium. Hammerheads forward Kyle Greig scored his first goal of the season and of his USL PRO career off an assist from midfielder Shawn Nicklaw. Hammerheads veteran Paul Nicholson followed Greig with his first goal of the 2013 regular season 20 minutes later.
The Hammerheads look to obtain more victories on the road this season compared to last. During the 2012 USL PRO regular season, the Hammerheads finished with a record of 2-6-4 on the road which effected their overall season standings and had them working to make rank in the playoffs. Compared to their traveling record, the Hammerheads held a stable home field record of 8-1-3 at Legion Stadium in 2012, losing only their last home match of the season versus state rivals, the Charlotte Eagles.
Sunday will be the inaugural match between USL PRO's Wilmington Hammerheads and Phoenix FC Wolves as Phoenix makes their club debut this year. The Hammerheads will host LA Blues at Legion Stadium on Saturday, May 18 and Phoenix FC Wolves on Saturday, June 1.
