
Checking In With The 2013 Draft Picks

All six of Chicago Bandit's draft picks were in action this past week, helping their teams go a combined 18-5. The newcomers had impressive stat lines across the board. Here is a recap and review of upcoming action on the future Bandits:
Tennessee's third baseman and leadoff batter Raven Chavanne played a weekend series against SEC conference foe Georgia. Raven, whose batting average of .469 leads the Vols, had an eye-popping stat line at the plate. She racked in ten hits, picking up four RBIs while also scoring eight runs. Chavanne and the Lady Vols played Tennessee Tech on Tuesday, run-ruling the Golden Eagles 12-3 in five innings. Raven continued her hot streak at the plate with two hits and one RBI. Tennessee improved to 35-6 and 9-3 in conference play. Tennessee is back in action today, hosting Auburn for a three-game series.
Michelle Gascoigne and the Oklahoma Sooners played a weekend series against Baylor in Norman, sweeping the Bears after winning the first two outings (8-3, 9-3) and ending the game early on run-rule (8-0) to close out the series. In the first game, Gascoigne pitched one inning, allowing one hit and no runs while facing four batters and throwing 15 pitches. She came back the next day to throw four innings, allowing three runs off four hits. She also picked up three strikeouts and earned the win for the Sooners, improving her record to 14-1 on the year. Gascoigne and the Sooners move to 34-2 on the season and 3-0 in conference play. Oklahoma starts a three-game home stand against Texas Tech today.
Jolene Henderson and the Cal Bears started the weekend off hosting Oregon, splitting the Ducks in a doubleheader on Saturday before losing, 9-3, on Sunday. Henderson pitched five innings in the first game, allowing six hits and two earned runs while also picking up 6 K's. She came back the next day to throw all seven innings, allowing eight hits and no earned runs while striking out four. Jolene pitched six innings, allowing 15 hits and seven runs as the Ducks upset the Bears in the final game of the series. Batting in the cleanup spot, she picked up an RBI off one hit in the series. Cal played Saint Mary's later in the week, winning 10-2 in six innings. Henderson showcased her talents on ESPN 2 the next day when her squad traveled to Los Angeles to play UCLA. The Bears lost the first game of the series in extra innings, 6-5, and are set to close out the series today and tomorrow. In that loss, Jolene pitched a full game for the Bears, giving up three earned runs off 12 hits while also picking up eight strikeouts. Cal is currently 31-7 and 6-4 in conference play.
Maggie Hull and the Kansas Jayhawks also picked up a sweep this past weekend, beating Texas Tech (4-3, 3-0 and 4-0). Hull started in left field all three games while picking up four hits and scoring two runs in the series. The Jayhawks improved their record to 24-10 and 3-3 in Big 12 action. Tomorrow, Kansas travels to Greensville, S.C. for a three game stint against Furman State.
Mel Dumezich and the Texas A&M Aggies hosted Colorado State this past weekend, sweeping the Rams (10-0, 3-1 and 10-2). The Aggies picked up two more victories later in the week, beating Lamar 9-0 and 12-4 while improving their record to 33-7 and 5-6 SEC. Mel pitched three innings, picking up seven strikeouts in the first outing against Colorado State. She came back the next day to throw an inning and pick up a K before tossing three innings and striking out five to end the series with the Rams. Dumezich did not pitch in the games against Lamar but picked up two hits and one RBI as the designated player at the plate. The Aggies improved to 33-7 on the season and 5-6 in conference action. TAMU hosts No. 13 LSU this weekend for a big SEC showdown against a pair of ranked opponents.
Jenna Marston and the No. 7 Missouri Tigers played a weekend series in Tuscaloosa against No. 4 Alabama. Mizzou dropped the first game 4-1 before coming back the next day to beat the Tide 9-4. Alabama won the final game, 14-6, in six innings. Marston started at catcher all three games while batting second in the Tiger lineup. She picked up two RBIs off of three hits in the series. Missouri is now 23-4 overall and 8-3 in conference play. Marston and the Tigers return home this weekend, hosting Arkansas for a three-game series against the Razorbacks.
