Topeka Pilots News Release

Nobody ever said the Road to the Robbie Cup had to be a smooth one. Two division rivals ground it out Saturday night but Texas made their shots count just a little bit more than Topeka, winning 2-1 and taking a one game lead in the first round of the South Division Playoffs.

The RoadRunners put the puck on net early and often in this one, out shooting the Tornado 7-1 in the scoreless first and 15-5 in the second but it was Texas that drew first blood. Max Shuart was granted a penalty shot following a questionable slashing call on Trace Strahle at 18:04 in the second. Shuart made the most of the opportunity, beating Spencer Viele on the glove side to give Texas the lead. Less than 40 seconds later, the RoadRunners responded with Tyler Andrew's powerplay goal to tie the game going into the second intermission.

CJ Reuschlein restored the Tornado lead at 5:39 of the third. A lead that Texas would not relinguish. Despite a shots-on-goal advantage of 36-15, the RoadRunners were only able to muster one netter in the loss.

Be at Landon Arena tonight as the comeback begins! Doors open at 5pm and the puck drops at 6 in Game Two of the South Division Playoffs. For more information on tickets, call 785-286-PUCK or visit the Expocentre Box Office.
