Whalers Sweep Privateers; Next Up the Demonz for the Cup

Danbury, CT - The Danbury Whalers are finals-bound for the 2nd year in a row. Danbury completed the sweep of the Privateers with a 4-1 victory at the Danbury Ice Arena. The Action started early and the Privateers took the play to the Whalers, but the Danbury squad fought back and 12:47 of the 1st Rich Vanderhoek put home a James Sanford shot past Matt Anthony, making it 1-0. 6 minutes later Tyler Noseworthy would score the game winning goal after Mike Atkinson's superb effort with the puck. Noseworthy tapped home the puck one-handed, 2-0 Whalers.

The Privateers would try recover when at 15:24 of the 2nd period Player-Coach Paul Kelly scored to cut the Whalers lead in half. The Whalers would rebound however and Mike Atkinson scored a wraparound goal off of his own rebound 2 minutes into the 3rd, making the game 3-1 Whalers. After fighting off a strong Privateer offensive flurry, the Whalers iced the game when Kelly Miller put the puck into the empty cage, final score, 4-1. Matt Anthony made 42 saves in the loss while Mike Brown stopped 38 of the 39 shots he faced.
