'Cats swept by Bulls, trail by seven pointsFebruary 11, 2013 - North American Hockey League (NAHL) - Wichita Falls Wildcats Press Release
The Bulls set the tone early on Friday, scoring only 2:34 into the game, followed by two goals later in the period by Blake Roubos for a quick 3-0 lead. The Bulls put 18 shots on Cooper Cook, who settled down nicely in the second period, stopping 10 Amarillo shots, keeping the Wildcats in the game, hopeful for a third period comeback. Unfortunately, the Bulls picked up their offensive onslaught again, putting three more pucks in the net before the Wildcats came alive with a George Pagonis powerplay goal with five minutes left to end Paul Berrafato's shutout bid. Nick Farmer added a shorthanded tally two minutes later, going high glove side with a wrister to make it a 6-2 game, but the Bulls went on to capitalize on the power play for the third time that night for a 7-2 final.
Saturday's game saw another early barrage of shots by the Bulls, putting 10 on net in the first then 20 in the second, but once again Cooper Cook stood tall in net, stopping 28 of those first 30, while Kyle Bauman sandwiched a goal in between those two scored by Amarillo, keeping the game within reach for the Wildcats through the opening forty minutes. But similar to Friday night, the Bulls pulled away in the third, getting two goals to make it a 4-1 game. Only ten seconds after that fourth goal though, George Pagonis struck again and made it 4-2 with eight minutes left. But the Bulls defense stood up against the Wildcats, especially late, keeping the Wildcats from getting an extra attacker on the ice until the clock was down to only 30 seconds left, taking home the sweep.
The Wildcats will face the Bulls again in March for two games out in Amarillo.
