VooDoo Get Morgan in Blockbuster TradeNovember 23, 2012 - Arena Football League (AFL) New Orleans VooDoo
The New Orleans native returns home after amassing impressive receiving statistics in the Arena Football League. His AFL career spans the last two seasons at Philly, in 2010 at Tulsa, and in 2008 with the Chicago Rush. Morgan starred for the Tulsa Talons in the now defunct af2 where he set single season records of 346 points, 57 total touchdowns, and 54 receiving TD's. At Tulsa he was First Team All-Arena in 2010. With the Rush, he was AFL Rookie of the Year in 2008. In Philadelphia, he earned Second Team All Arena Honors in 2011. Morgan played in the NFL for the Houston Texans, New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs, and Buffalo Bills.
"The VooDoo got better today. Having Donovan back in his home state is where he belongs, "said VooDoo head coach Pat O'Hara. "Veterans in the locker room means leadership for our younger AFL players," O'Hara continued. "That's really important. We are excited to have our fans see him in action in New Orleans in 2013."
In 2012, with Philly, Morgan had 79 receptions for 1,020 yards and 26 touchdown catches. In his two seasons with the Soul, Morgan finds himself amongst the franchise career regular-season leaders in receptions (200), receiving yards (2,977), receiving touchdowns (63) and total touchdowns (65).
His best single-game performance came in his Soul debut in 2011, where he caught 14 receptions for 189 yards and five touchdowns, while adding a rushing touchdown, in a 58-52 overtime victory in Week 1 at Pittsburgh. With that performance, Morgan tied Soul regular-season records for most receptions in a game and most touchdowns in a game.
"Being back in New Orleans is a blessing. I'm a big believer in the Lord, and everything is done at the right time," said Morgan. "It's going to be great to be able to play in front of my family and little girl. The VooDoo is a great organization, and I'm excited to be back where it all started."
Morgan is a Reed High School graduate. Before turning pro, he began his collegiate career at Pearl River C.C. followed by one season at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
