Piasa Drop Two over Weekend

Illinois Piasa News Release

GLEN CARBON, IL, 11/19/12 - It was a tough weekend for the Illinois Piasa as they took to the road with a trip to Ohio on Saturday and then to Detroit on Sunday. Piasa lost both, 7-0 to the Vortex and 12-4 to the Waza.

Saturday's game in Oberlin, Ohio started off a close one as the two teams went into halftime with the Vortex holding a 2-0 lead. Piasa couldn't generate anything in the second half and gave up 5 goals, 4 in the 4th quarter alone. The highlight for the Piasa was goalkeeper #0 Alan Hagerty, who ended up with 16 saves in his first start for the team.

On Sunday, the Piasa hoped to turn things around as they travelled north to Taylor, Michigan to visit the red-hot Detroit Waza. Unfortunately, they found that to be a tougher task than they had hoped for.

The Piasa once again battled to stay in the game in the first half, taking a 6-2 deficit into the half, with goals by #23 Tim Vance and #8 Jon Fridal.

The 3rd quarter looked promising as both teams scored two goals. Piasa goals came from #2 Jesse Semnacher and #18 Blake Ordell. The Piasa goalkeeper, #1 Ilfan Kudic, was injured after a cheap shot to the left knee. He tried to stay in the game, but was unable, and #0 Alan Hagerty was inserted in his place to finish the game. The 4th quarter once again proved to be the weakest for Piasa, both offensively and defensively. The Waza scored 4 unanswered goals and the Piasa walked away in defeat, 12-4.

Luckily Piasa has a few weeks off to recover before their next game at home on Sunday, December 9 vs. the Rockford Rampage at 3:35 pm at The Sports Academy.
