Minnesota Swarm News Release

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The National Lacrosse League's (NLL) Minnesota Swarm will hold its second annual open tryout session on Thursday, Nov. 29 at the Toronto Rock Practice Facility in Oakville, Ontario.

The daylong session will feature a few dozen players, and will give undrafted rookies and free agents the opportunity to earn a spot on the Swarm's 40-man roster. Minnesota's 2012 draft picks and free agent signings will also take part in the session. In order to tryout, players must be granted permission from Swarm associate general manager and head coach Joe Sullivan.

"We want guys that come not looking for a promise to make the team, but want to work as hard as they can to make the team," Sullivan said. "In addition to our draft picks, we want to bring several of the players trying out to our main camp, so there's a great opportunity for somebody to get a chance to make the roster."

Prior to securing roster spots last season, a handful of Swarm players earned their coaches respect through the team's open tryout session. Players that attended last year's tryout included D Dan Ball, D Nik Bilic, G Tyler Carlson, and F Joel Henry.

"They're all guys that worked themselves through the rookie camp, into the main camp, and then onto the team," Sullivan said. "They worked extremely hard and each of those guys had outstanding rookie seasons in the NLL."

Minnesota officially opens main camp on Friday, Nov. 30 and will face the Colorado Mammoth on Dec. 1 in an exhibition contest. The Swarm returns to Oakville for a second main camp session on Dec. 7-9, before it finishes training camp on Dec. 15-16.

For the second straight season, the Swarm will face the Rochester Knighthawks in the team's only preseason contest on Saturday, Dec. 8 at The Blue Cross Arena. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.

To be granted a tryout during the Swarm's open tryout session, players need to e-mail coach Sullivan (sullyswarm@bell.blackberry.net). All players with a high level of experience are invited to attend this one-day event. Prospective players that advance past the team's open tryout session will be required to stay the weekend for main camp.
