Mavericks Receive Forward and Goaltender; O'Brien WaivedOctober 8, 2012 - Central Hockey League (CHL) Missouri Mavericks
Corbiel, 21 (9/27/91), is a fourth round draft pick (102nd overall) of the Columbus Blue Jackets from the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-foot-6, 188-pound goaltender enters his rookie season after playing the previous five seasons of junior hockey in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) including the last two seasons with the Saint John Sea Dogs. The Montreal, Quebec native had a career-year last season with the Sea Dogs in which played a bulk of the time between the pipes (2,779 minutes) and he finished with a 37-10-1 record, 2.38 goals-against average (GAA) and .911 save percentage. He also had a career-high six shutouts for Saint John in 2011-12.
"Mathieu had an outstanding camp in Chicago," said Mavericks' Head Coach Scott Hillman. "I was able to watch him closely in both practice and game scenarios and we believe that he has a bright future."
Tochkin, 21 (2/15/91), was assigned to the Mavericks by the NHL's Vancouver Canucks, and enters his rookie season with the Mavericks having played the previous four full seasons of junior hockey in the Western Hockey League (WHL). The native of Abbotsford, British Columbia played for three teams over the previous four seasons, but most recently in Prince Albert with the Raiders. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound forward had 29 points (14-1529) in 29 games with Prince Albert last season and 37 points (14-2337) in 39 total games in the WHL. Tochkin finished his amateur career with 244 points on 91 goals and 153 assists in 257 games from 2006-12.
"Kellen has a real knack for scoring goals," added Hillman. "We are committed to working very hard to help players like Kellen continue to develop as part of our working agreement with Chicago and Vancouver."
The Missouri Mavericks will begin their fourth season of play on October 19 on the road against the expansion Denver Cutthroats.
