
Boost Mobile to Present 2012 WNBA Most Valuable Player Award

NEW YORK, Sept. 10, 2012 - The WNBA and Boost Mobile, a leader in the no-contract wireless industry, today announced that Boost Mobile will be the presenting partner of both the 2012 WNBA MVP Award as well as the 2012 WNBA MVP Fan Vote and Sweepstakes, which takes into account fan voting for the second time in league history. The winner will be determined by a panel of 42 voters consisting of sportswriters and broadcasters as well as an MVP fan vote online and via mobile devices.
Fans can help decide the 2012 WNBA MVP by casting their votes online and via their mobile devices at WNBA.com/mvpvote. WNBA MVP Vote and Sweepstakes Presented by Boost Mobile begins at noon EST on Monday, Sept. 10, and continues through Sunday, Sept. 23. Fans may vote once per day online during the voting period on both their mobile device and their computers. The recipient of the 2012 WNBA Most Valuable Player Award will be announced during the WNBA Playoffs Presented by Boost Mobile.

The 2012 WNBA MVP Fan Vote and Sweepstakes Presented by Boost Mobile will be supported during WNBA telecasts, online at WNBA.com, through voting platforms, via the "Race to the MVP presented by Boost Mobile" feature that tracks MVP candidates each week and through social media. The fan vote will count as one vote and will be compiled with the 41 media votes to determine the winner.
In addition, the sweepstakes will run during the voting period on WNBA.com/mvpvote. Fans who vote can enter into a contest for a chance to win a three-day, two-night trip, including round-trip airfare and hotel for two with two tickets to one game of the 2012 WNBA Finals that will be presented by Boost Mobile.
There have been eight recipients of the MVP Award in the WNBA's 15-year history: Tamika Catchings, Indiana Fever (2011); Lauren Jackson, Seattle Storm (2003, "Ë07, "Ë10); Diana Taurasi, Phoenix Murcury (2009); Candace Parker, L.A. Sparks (2008); Lisa Leslie, L.A. Sparks (2001, "Ë04, "Ë06); Sheryl Swoopes, Houston Comets (2000, "Ë02, "Ë05); Yolanda Griffith, Sacramento Monarchs (1999); and Cynthia Cooper, Houston Comets (1997, "Ë98).
The WNBA Most Valuable Player presented by Boost Mobile is part of a series of on-court performance honors called the WNBA Performance Awards presented by Boost Mobile. The series, currently in its first season, also includes the WNBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week Presented by Boost Mobile, the WNBA Players of the Month presented by Boost Mobile and, in addition to the MVP award, three other prestigious year-end honors: WNBA Defensive Player of the Year presented by Boost Mobile, WNBA Sixth Woman presented by Boost Mobile, and WNBA Most Improved Player presented by Boost Mobile.
