Series Tied After Biscuits Outlast BayBears in Extras

The Mobile BayBears fell to the Montgomery Biscuits 2-1 in 11 innings at Hank Aaron Stadium Friday night. The Biscuits took game two of the 2012 Southern League first-round playoffs, scoring the go-ahead run on a RBI single from Robby Price in the top of the eleventh. Despite scoring first, the BayBears were held to just one hit over the final seven innings. With the Biscuits win, the best-of-five series is tied at 1-1.

The BayBears lone run came in the fourth inning when Matt Davidson scored on a RBI single from Ed Easley. The BayBears ended the fourth inning with three men left on base. LHP David Holmberg did not factor in the decision, allowing just one run on four hits in seven full innings.

The Biscuits tied the game at 1-1 in the seventh when Omar Luna hit a solo home run off Holmberg. With the game still tied in the eleventh, Mike Sheridan led off the frame with a single and Kyeong Kang walked to put runners at first and second for Price, as he drove in the go-ahead run for Montgomery with the RBI single.

The BayBears and Biscuits continue the series with game two on Saturday, September 8, scheduled for 6:35 PM. Games three, four and five (if necessary) will be played at River Walk Stadium in Montgomery.

The BayBears entered the 2012 playoffs as the Southern League South Division first-half champions while the Biscuits clinched the Southern League South Division second-half title to earn a playoff spot.

In 2011, the Mobile BayBears defeated the Birmingham Barons in the first round of the playoffs and topped the Tennessee Smokies in four games to win the 2011 Southern League Championship.
