BayBears and Generals Split Monday Doubleheader

August 20, 2012 - Southern League (SL) Mobile BayBears

The Mobile BayBears split their doubleheader against the Jackson Generals Monday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. Jackson topped Mobile 4-2 in game one, but the BayBears bounced back with a 4-3 victory over the Generals in game two. LHP James Paxton was credited with the win for Jackson in game one, allowing two runs on seven hits in six inning of work. BayBears RHP Derek Eitel recorded his eighth win of the season, allowing three runs on eight hits over five innings in game two.

In game one, the Generals took a 1-0 lead with a solo home run from Rich Poythress in the top of the first inning. The BayBears tied the game in the bottom of the first when Matt Mangini drove home Brent Clevlen with a RBI single. After each team traded runs in the third inning, Mark Zunino hit a solo homer in the fourth to give Jackson a 3-2 lead. The Generals scored their final run in the sixth inning when Chih-Hsien Chiang plated Johermyn Chavez with a RBI single.

The Generals scored first again in game two, taking a 1-0 lead with a solo home run from Joe Dunigan. Mobile responded in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring four runs. Rossmel Perez led off the frame with a walk and advanced to second on a base hit from Dan Kaczrowski. Chris Owings reached on an error in the next at-bat to load the bases and Alfredo Marte tied the game with a RBI single. Matt Davidson followed with an RBI single and Clevlen extended the Mobile lead to 4-1 with a two-run single. Poythress put the Generals with in one run, hitting a two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning for his second homer of the night. RHP Kevin Munson earned the save by throwing a scoreless seventh.
