Sams Activated from DL, Maurer Placed on Inactive List

MOBILE, ALA. (AUGUST 20, 2012) - The Seattle Mariners and Jackson Generals announce the following roster moves. RHP Brandon Maurer has been placed on the temporary inactive list and OF Kalian Sams has been activated from the 7-day DL. The moves come prior to tonight's double-header starting at 5:05 p.m. in Mobile.

SAMS, 25, was placed on the 7-day DL on August 8. Sams has played in 71 games this season, batting .233, with 10 home runs and 33 RBI. This is Sams' 8th pro season and he is a .215 career batter 79 home runs and 219 RBI. Sams was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Mariners in 2006. He resides in Hague, Netherlands .

MAURER, 22, ranks 3rd in the Southern League with a 3.20 ERA. He also leads the Generals in wins (9), strikeouts (117) and innings pitched (137.1, career high). Since June 1 he is 7-1 with a 2.50 ERA (24 ER, 86.1 IP) with 10 quality starts in 14 starts. During this stretch has lowered his season ERA from 4.38 to 3.20. In 8 starts since returning from DL on July 3. Maurer was the Marines 23rd round draft choice in 2008 out of Costa Mesa, CA.
