SAN JOSE, Calif. - The SaberCats announced today that they will be holding an open player tryout on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 7:30 a.m. at their practice facility in Sunnyvale, Calif. at 1095 Dunford Way. Those interested in participating can register at www.thesanjosesabercats.com. Participants will receive an opportunity to exhibit their skills in front of the entire SaberCats coaching staff and player personnel department.

"Last year we were very fortunate to find a diamond in the rough in Fred Williams at our tryout," Owner and Head Coach Darren Arbet said regarding the open tryout. "This year we are looking for more difference-makers and are excited to get back out on the field and begin preparations for the 2013 season."

Testing will include a 40-yard dash and a 20-yard shuttle run that will be conducted on field turf. Additional tests will include a vertical jump and bench press on a hard surface with position-specific drills on grass. Those wishing to participate must bring their own shoes with cleats required for position specific-drills and tennis shoes for artificial and hard surface testing. Participants must also bring their own shorts and accessories with no pads required. All camp activity will be non-contact. Participants should arrive dressed and ready for testing. No lockers are available.

Williams, a breakout rookie in 2012, who was a two-time AFL Ironman of the week during the 2012 season, was discovered during the 2011 open tryout. 2012's leading wide receiver Samora Goodson was also discovered at an open tryout prior to the 2008 season.

Online pre-registration is available now for a fee of $60 which must be paid by credit card only. Day-of tryout registration will be accepted for a fee of $75 and must be paid in cash.

The tryout is subject to cancellation should weather conditions be non-conducive to obtaining accurate results for testing. Should a cancellation occur, the tryout will be postponed to a later date. In the event that a postponement occurs, that information will be available on the team's official website.
