Rochester Rhinos News Release

The Rochester Rhinos defeated the Los Angeles Blues 1:0 in Sahlen's Stadium on Friday, July 27th. The game winning goal was a Blues own goal in the 60th minute. Rhinos goalkeeper Kristian Nicht faced four shots and made two saves in keeping his league leading tenth clean sheet of the season. The victory moved the Rochester Rhinos five points clear of the third place Charleston Battery in the USL PRO table. However, the race for the USL PRO title ended on Friday night as Orlando City secured first place with a 4:0 victory over the Battery.

Los Angeles Blues coach Charlie Naimo named three of his new acquisitions to his starting eleven with Andrew Jean-Baptiste starting at center back, Josh Suggs starting at left back, and Maxwell Griffin starting up top. Goalkeeper Carl Woszcynski joined new boy striker David Arvizu on the bench.

Rochester Rhinos head coach Jesse Myers didn't make any changes to his side that defeated Pittsburgh 2:0 last weekend. Captain Troy Roberts and star winger JC Banks both passed fitness tests and where able to make the starting line-up.

During the Rhinos first two matches of the season in Los Angeles the Blues held a majority of the possession with their attractive, short passing, possession style of play. On Friday night in Sahlen's Stadium the Blues were much more cautious in their set-up and style of play away from home. They fielded a 1-4-5-1 formation with Griffin alone up top and five midfielders underneath him to control the middle of the pitch. The Rochester Rhinos held a majority of play in the first 20 minutes, but couldn't create any chances against a well-organized Blues defense.
