Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LAKE ELSINORE, CA - The JetHawks struggles at The Diamond continued on Tuesday night as they dropped the series opener, 3-1, to the Lake Elsinore Storm and have now lost all 12 games in Lake Elsinore this season.
Nick Tropeano (2-2) committed an error and saw his defense commit two more leading to two unearned runs that cost the JetHawks the game.
After the right-hander struck out the side in the first inning, he gave up his first unearned run in the second. With two outs and Everett Williams at first, Eddy Rodriguez hit a single near the foul line in right field. Domingo Santana pursued the ball and overran it allowing Williams to score. The next batter, B.J. Guinn, flew out to left field.
The Storm added two more in the bottom of the fifth. With one out and Guinn at first, Donavan Tate hit a ground ball to the left side of the infield. Jonathan Meyer and Chan Moon converged on the ball and the shortstop Moon ended up having the ball go in and out of his glove for the team's third error.
After a Justin Miller single loaded the bases, Tommy Medica came through with a ground ball base hit to right field to drive in two runs.
Tropeano left the game after five innings allowing three runs - one earned - on eight hits. He struck out eight and walked one.
Storm starter Matt Andriese (8-5) dominated in his seventh start against the JetHawks. The right-hander allowed just one hit through the first five innings but gave up an unearned run of his own in the sixth.
With Chan Moon at second base and George Springer at the plate, catcher Eddy Rodriguez tried to pick Moon off and threw the ball into centerfield. Moon advanced to third and later scored on a Springer single. It was the JetHawks only run of the game.
Telvin Nash singled in the seventh inning and left the game with an apparent leg injury. He finished the night 1-for-3 with two groundouts to short stop ending his consecutive games with a strikeout streak at 47.
Kevin Quackenbush struck out the side in the ninth inning to pick up his 20th save.
The JetHawks (17-14, 54-47) and the Storm (20-12, 56-46) will play the second game of the series on Wednesday night at 7:05 pm in Lake Elsinore. David Martinez (4-4, 5.20) will start against Burch Smith (9-4, 3.35).
