Hunter Morris Named SL Hitter of the Week

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Huntsville Stars first baseman Hunter Morris was named the Southern League Hitter of the Week for July 2-8, as voted on by MLB Advanced Media.

The 23-year-old hit .517 (15-for-29) over a span of seven games with seven extra-base hits that included a double, two triples and four home runs. He also hit 10 RBIs, scored seven runs, walked once and only struck out three times. He has hit a triple and a home run in his last two games and is currently riding a five-game hit streak.

The former Auburn Tiger is batting .314 (102-325) in 85 games with the Stars this season, second best in the Southern League. He ranks in the top five in the league in a number of categories including at bats (3rd, 325), home runs (4th, 14), RBIs (1st, 67), hits (1st, 102), doubles (1, 27), slugging percentage (2nd, .551), and total bases (1st, 179). On the season, Morris has 45 extra-base hits. He has only committed three errors defensively, making him currently the best defensive first baseman in the Southern League (.996).

The Huntsville native was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the fourth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft. He was recently named the Topps Southern League Player of the Month for June and the Brewers Minor League Player of the Month for April. He was also named a 2012 Southern League All-Star.
