Larranaga to Serve as Assistant Coach of Ukrainian Men's National Team

Erie, Pennsylvania, Tuesday, July 3 - Erie BayHawks head coach Jay Larranaga is heading to Kiev, Ukraine for two months to serve as an assistant coach of the Ukrainian senior men's national team under legendary head coach Mike Fratello. Larranaga will return to Erie in September to coach his third year with the BayHawks.

"I'm incredibly excited and honored to join Coach Fratello's staff of the Ukrainian team. He is one of the great coaches in NBA history and I look forward to working with him and learning from him on a daily basis," said Larranaga. "I'm also thankful for the support of the Knicks and BayHawks that have encouraged me to accept this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and continue to grow in my coaching career."

Over the next two months the Ukrainian team will be competing in Group C of the qualifying round of the 2013 European Championships. Group C includes the national teams of Croatia, Austria, Cyprus, Hungary and Ukraine. The top two teams from the group will advance to next year's European Championships to be played in Slovenia.
